We work with children and their families at our office, in their homes, or within their communities. We understand that these children often have many different things upsetting them and the solution is not always easy or straight forward. We take a look at the entire problem you are facing, not just one aspect, and set upon a path to better living for the long term.
Within these children's lives are family, friends, teachers, support people, and a variety of agencies. We can help train and educate the people who have regular contact with a child. By doing this, we can affect change in several areas of functioning rather than just one or two areas. The other people involved with the child will not do things contrary to the goals of the parents or guardians and the child will experience a greater level of consistency and spend less time being confused.
Our goal is to help these children live and prosper; to have friends, to go to prom, to have a job, to go to college.
Why are we so passionate and dedicated? There are many answers to this question, but the first one is because autism has touched our lives personally. We have found ways to thrive with Autism in our family and you can, too. We can go beyond mere theory and offer you help with what works and what does not work. We know that there are plenty of ways to spend your autism dollars and we have gone ahead of you to find out which ones are worth your time and which ones only make the problem worse.
Regardless of diagnosis, our children struggle with many other challenging self regulatory patterns: sensory integration, sleep deprivation, processing disorders, mobility challenges, and behavior modulation. Many times a family needs to tackle these underlying struggles before progress can be made.
Maybe you are the parent, guardian or family member of a child who:
- has just received a diagnosis and you don't know where to start or who to turn to.
- has recently joined your foster home and you don't have experience with his or her specific issues.
- has difficult behavior issues and everything you have tried has failed or just created other symptoms or problems in other areas.
- has suffered neglect; has been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused; has experienced a disaster such as a tornado, flood, or house fire; has witnessed a traumatic event like a shooting or the death of a loved one; or has been the victim of a bully. We specialize in providing therapy to children who have a history of abuse or trauma and have a diagnosis on the autism spectrum or a mood disorder .
- has been doing relatively well until he or she reaches the teen years and everything seems to have fallen apart.
We can help.
We understand that abuse, trauma and anxiety affects children with autism or mood disorders differently than children without these disorders. Therapy ought to begin as soon as possible to help both the family and the child process all that is happening. Do not wait and "see what happens."
In your community, we offer training and education to:
- Schools or individual programs
- Colleges or Universities
- PCA, Respite or Child Care Providers
- Educators and Teachers
- Extended family members
- Parents who have just received a diagnosis
- Other providers, such as foster parents, Occupational or Physical Therapists, or Speech Therapists.
